Metrology experts win Composites UK award for manufacturing innovation
After receiving numerous awards in the last two years, Metrology Software Products Ltd (MSP), are thrilled to announce they have been recognised with yet another award for their contribution to innovation within the composites manufacturing industry. The Alnwick- based company were selected as winners of the Composites UK ’Innovation in Manufacture’ Award, for their system NC-PerfectPart. The award was collected by Technical Director, Peter Hammond, at the Composites UK Industry Awards Dinner. The evening coincided with the 2014 Advanced Engineering Show which the company has exhibited at for the last four years.
Claire Whysall from Composites UK commented; “This year saw a record amount of award entries being sent to us, and it’s great to see the UK industry standing up and shouting about what they are achieving.”
MSP were joined at the black-tie awards dinner which was held on the 11th of November at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, by Associate Company, Renishaw.
This event has grown year on year and is fast becoming a renowned industry occasion, bringing together leaders from across the UK composites industry to celebrate and support the achievements over the past few years. This year the ‘Innovation in Manufacture’ Award was sponsored by the National Composites Centre, a highly prestigious centre regarding the development and innovation of composites.
Peter Hammond, MSP Technical Director, stated: ’‘A significant amount of time, effort and knowledge goes into producing raw composite material. In many cases, this is then put onto the machine incorrectly, resulting in the part being scrapped. NC-PerfectPart eliminates the possibility of this happening, giving complete confidence and perfect parts’.
This is the second award this year for the advanced manufacturing company. In April they won an MWP award for ‘Best Production Management System’ for NC-PerfectPart. A few months before, MSP were involved in the project that won a BAE Systems 2013 Chairman’s Gold Award for the improvement of the manufacturing process of the F-35 Nozzle Bay Door, which led to savings of £21m over the life of the project.
MSP’s systems save tier 1 aerospace suppliers millions of pounds each year with their innovative software. NC-PerfectPart eliminates errors within composite machining to create perfect parts, allowing companies to work towards further advancing composite manufacture rather than being held back by current machining problems.
Dr. Sue Halliwell of Composites UK said ‘The judges recognised the real industry need for the improvement in manufacturing efficiency that NC-PerfectPart delivers. The market potential for the product is considerable and will bring benefit across the industry’.
