Seasonal sparkle at top tourist attraction
Cakes, crackers and a much loved man in red are helping to make the season sparkle at one of the North East’s leading tourist attractions.
This November and December, National Glass Centre, Sunderland, is hosting a series of festive events for all ages organised by 1879 Events Management, which manages all catering and events at the recently re-launched venue.
Highlights in 1879’s festive calendar include Saturdays with Santa on December 6 and 20, where families will have the opportunity to meet the man himself and enjoy a special seasonal meal.
For adults, 1879 Events Management has arranged a series of Christmas Party Nights, including a three course meal, party box, crackers and a disco, available every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from November 27 to December 19.
From November 29 to December 31, National Glass Centre’s in-house Brasserie, which is also run by 1879 Events Management, will be serving a special Christmas Menu and Festive Afternoon Tea.
The tea, served daily from noon until 2.30pm, includes a selection of seasonal finger sandwiches, homemade chocolate and cherry scones with brandy cream and a variety of cakes and delicacies, including salted caramel tart and stollen slices. This is served with a choice of tea or, for a small supplement, a glass of mulled wine.
The lunch menu, which will be served during regular opening hours Monday to Saturday and from noon until 2.30pm Sundays, includes a choice of starters, main courses and desserts, all made using local sourced ingredients.
This includes homemade cream of butternut squash and parsnip soup, fresh turkey parcel filled with apricot and cranberry stuffing and chocolate caramel salted torte.
Diners can opt for two or three courses, with complimentary coffee and Christmas confections to finish.
Prices for 1879 Events Management’s festive programme at National Glass Centre start from £2 per child for Saturdays with Santa and £30 per person for the Christmas Party Nights.
The Festive Afternoon Tea at National Glass Centre Brasserie is priced at £13.95 per person or £17, including wine, with the main menu starting at £14.50 for two courses or £18.50 for three courses.
These events, organised by 1879 Events Management, form part of a wider programme of seasonal activities at National Glass Centre, which also includes a special shopping weekend from November 29 to 30, Santa’s Elves Tea Party for ages 12 and under on December 6 and 7 and Christmas bauble making sessions every weekend during November and December. . Some events require pre-booking. For more information call 0191 5155555, visit Nationalglasscentre.com or follow @NGC_Brasserie on Twitter.
