Work begins on historic Loxley Valley mill site
Work has begun on the conversion of one of Sheffield’s most historic industrial sites into luxury housing.
The Loxley Works site off Loxley Road dates back to the 18th century and the dawn of the Industrial Revolution.
The site was abandoned many decades ago and is now a scar in the Loxley Valley’s precious Green Belt.
But award winning Sheffield architectural design consultancy Coda Studios created plans that preserve the site’s central industrial building and bring it to fresh life.
At the centre of the project is a redundant mill building that was originally constructed in the late 19th century as a small-scale rolling mill during the development of steel works in the area.
The challenging conversion includes the creation of 10 loft-style houses by developers Campbell Homes, making full use of the industrial features of the site.
“This was a difficult and challenging project because we knew we were working on a totally unique development and one that we were anxious to maintain,” said Coda Managing Director David Cross.
“The loft style dwellings use the original industrial features of these historic buildings but at the same time remain completely true to the Green Belt setting, preserving the history and heritage of the area.
“We feel our design team has created something totally unique for the Loxley Valley and we are delighted that the project is now beginning.”
