BDO advises CAMRx on sale to Cambrian Alliance
The corporate finance team at BDO LLP has advised pharmacy buying group, CAMRx, on its disposal to Cambrian Alliance, in a deal that creates one of the UK’s largest buying and support groups for the pharmacy sector.
The transaction sees the two leading pharmacy membership groups come together to form an organisation that will give stronger support and buying power to independent pharmacies across the UK.
CAMRx, based in Whitwick, Leicestershire, is led by long-standing champion of independent pharmacies Rajni Hindocha, who has more than 30 years pharmacy experience. It has been acquired by Cardiff-based Cambrian Alliance, which was formed in 2000 with the aim of increasing members’ profitability by negotiating better terms of businesses for independent pharmacies.
Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO were lead advisers to CAMRx. The deal - the second East Midlands transaction completed by BDO in the space of a month - follows the sale of healthcare group Cliffe Medical.
Commenting Satvir Bungar, M&A director at BDO, said: “The sector has become very active in the M&A market, as organisations drive to enhance buying power with global pharmaceutical groups.
“This deal represents a great strategic fit for both organisations and their members. Importantly, it also highlights the local appetite for consolidation and growth as organisations aim to increase market share.”
Rajni Hindocha, Managing Director of CAMRx, said: “I am personally extremely pleased with what this agreement will mean for both organisations’ memberships and I look forward to working with the group to expand the benefits we are able to offer.
“I am certain that this partnership will offer independent pharmacies across the country a real opportunity to expand and prosper.”
The acquisition sees CAMRx become part of the Cambrian Alliance group, although both companies will remain separate operating businesses for the foreseeable future. Combined they will have more than 1200 members.
