Gentoo raise over £2,000 helping charity move closer to £2m cancer facility

A campaign to build a £2m cancer support and education centre in Gateshead is one step closer thanks to staff fundraising efforts at Gentoo.

The charity Fighting All Cancers Together, (FACT) initiated the campaign ‘We want 2’ which is asking people, organisations and businesses across the North East to raise £2,000 in the first phase of fundraising to reach a £400,000 target.

Gentoo Construction who will oversee the build of the state-of –the-art facility voted FACT as Gentoo Group’s chosen charity in October.

Allan Thompson, Managing Director at Gentoo Construction said: “I have been amazed by the efforts of staff across the Group who have taken time to help us reach our target. This type of activity is another way we prove we’re more than just a construction company.

“Our supply chain has also played a big part and donated almost £1,400 in prizes that were auctioned off. A massive thanks to everyone who has helped us reach this target and for such a great cause.”

The facility will provide a range of services to people with cancer and their families and friends and is the first community facility of its kind, offering support, practical help and social opportunities in a non-medical environment to anyone directly or indirectly affected by cancer.

Joanne Smith, chief executive and founder of FACT said: “We are delighted to have the support of Gentoo as one of our £2k challengers. As a local charity, we value the support of local people and organisations, and this exciting building project relies on this support. The centre, and the services it will offer, are very much in demand, and needed by so many people affected by cancer in the North East. If you or any organisation would like to help us achieve this project we would love to hear from them. They can contact us by email info@fact-cancersupport.co.uk.”

Gentoo Group’s whole ethos is about believing nothing is impossible and finding new ways to challenge conventions, Gentoo aims to make society a better place to live and to make a real difference to the way people live their life.
