£250k George Washington Hotel expansion creates 30 new jobs
A North East hotel, golf and spa venue has undergone a major expansion to its premises to include a brand new multipurpose restaurant and function room.
The Mercure Newcastle George Washington Hotel in Washington, has invested £250k in a new Orangery and outside terrace, providing the 103-bed hotel and spa with an additional 2000 square feet of dining and event venue space, holding a capacity of 220.
The Orangery features a complete glass frontage with bi-fold doors opening out onto an al-fresco dining area.
Overlooking the Hotel’s championship golf course, the expansion will create 30 new jobs including kitchen and front of house staff, and will support local wedding and event supplier businesses.
The project also includes the complete refurbishment of the hotel’s breakfast area.
To coincide with the opening of The Orangery, the hotel will be launching a new Afternoon Tea service and Sunday Lunch menu.
General manager Martin Hall, said: “The launch of The Orangery marks a very exciting time for the Hotel. The investment in creating such a unique, inviting, multifunctional space was carefully considered and allows many possibilities for us to improve what we can offer and add value to our guests.
“As well as an ideal and picturesque space for weddings, The Orangery is the perfect environment for guests to sample our new menus and further meet the demand for our Sunday Lunch service.
“Providing new and existing guests with an excellent level of customer service is of the upmost importance to us and this latest expansion is part of a wider plan which will see the face of the George Washington Hotel evolve over the coming year.”
The George Washington Hotel Golf and Spa is part of the Mercure hotel group, comprising over 750 3-star and 4-star hotels worldwide.
