Bradford freight firm invests in the East Midlands to expand continental reach

Bradford-based freight company Redhead International have invested in a new depot in Tamworth, Staffordshire, which has direct daily services to Ireland, France and Germany, and other major European destinations.

Redhead has acquired a new fleet of domestic vehicles to facilitate the local collections and deliveries.

Redhead, established in 1978, is owned by its working directors and employs more than 230 people internationally. It handles over 25,000 consignments a month from its seven depots throughout the UK and Ireland.

The company has regular scheduled services to over 40 countries in Western, Eastern and Southern Europe, Scandinavia, North Africa, the Middle East and former Soviet republics. Redhead reported record turnover of more than £32m in its latest accounts.

Redhead International, based in Bradford’s Low Moor, has been established in the Midlands for more than six years and was advised on the lease negotiations by Rachel Thompson, a solicitor in the commercial property team of Yorkshire law firm Gordons.

Ged Adamson, a Redhead International director, said: “The Midlands has been an important part of the company’s plans for many years. It remains at the heart of the UK’s recovering economy and we can see demand for services growing.

“An increasing number of companies in the Midlands are developing their international presence and, as a result, are looking for an alternative, flexible logistics partner. We hope Redhead can be that organisation.”

Gordons has advised Redhead previously on a wide range of matters, including subsidiary companies, property transactions, employee share options, service agreements and equity purchases.

Commenting on Ms Thompson’s role in securing the new Tamworth site, Mr Adamson said: “Gordons have proved before that they thoroughly understand what our company and shareholders need – a rare commodity.

“They’re part of our team, share our culture, provide a proactive service and always deliver great value.

“Rachel reminded me of all these facts through the service she provided over the Tamworth letting, which showed expertise and was delivered in a friendly manner. We would certainly recommend her and Gordons to other businesses.”

One of the UK’s most successful law firms, Gordons has offices in Leeds, Bradford and London, employs 265 people and has a turnover of more than £25.3 million.
