Price tag of £2.5 million for new Hanover Square development in Leeds
Plans have been submitted for a £2.5 million scheme of affordable rental apartments in Leeds City Centre.
Leeds-based architecture practice Brewster Bye have designed the scheme, which is located on the corner of Hanover Square on behalf of Leeds & Yorkshire Housing Association.
Architect Roger Stannard from Brewster Bye said: “The new building will replace an existing vacant building known as Kendal Carr that adjoins an extension of the renowned Grade II listed Denison Hall, which was built in 1786 and sits in a higher position to the North of Hanover Square.
“Occupying such a prominent position, on the North West corner of Hanover Square, means it is essential that we get the design and quality of Kendal Carr right.
“As a result our contemporary new-build design draws its inspiration from the Georgian and Victorian architecture that surrounds it and we are confident it will complement its illustrious surroundings perfectly.”
Joanna Chambers from Leeds & Yorkshire Housing Association says: “A full demolition of the existing building is necessary in order for us to deliver these fantastic 23 new homes which meet all the necessary standards for modern living.
“Kendal Carr will provide seven one bedroom and 16 two bedroom affordable flats with parking in this hugely sought after area. The flats on the ground floor will include small areas of private open space and every home will also have a secure cycle space.”
