Wakefield Entrepreneur named in Manufacturing Top 100
WAKEFIELD entrepreneur and former chair of Yorkshire IoD, Margaret Wood, MBE, has been named one of the UK’s Top 100 Manufacturers for continued success and contribution to industry.
Wood, started ICW (UK) Ltd in 1992 manufacturing hi spec specialized windows and glazed units for industry. She received the accolade in its inaugural year from an industry panel supported by The Manufacturer Magazine and Lloyds Bank who were both keen to raise a positive image of manufacturing.
The awards were formally announced during Manufacturing Excellence Week held in Birmingham. The Top 100 was compiled from a long list of by an expert panel including Prof John Perkins, chief scientific officer, BIS, Prof Sir Mike Gregory, head of the Institute of Manufacturing, Cambridge University and Nigel Fine, CEO, Institution of Engineering and Technology.
They praised the nominees for their leadership, contributions to popular industry perceptions, investment in people, ventures into new markets and impact disproportionate to their years.
The Top 100 aims to prove that manufacturing is a vibrant, exciting, creative and well-paid industry to be involved in. Proud of her achievement Wood said: “To be acknowledged by peers and industry experts alike is incredibly humbling.
“This week has highlighted that manufacturing is a vibrant, exciting, creative and well-paid industry to be involved in.
“Whilst there is still a notable skills gap between generations and more needs to be done to entice the next wave of manufacturer’s, this list proves that we are achieving a positive impact on the growth of the UK economy.”
