Merseyside flooring specialist Durastic completes £14 million project at historic university building

Merseyside flooring specialist Durastic has completed projects in two of Liverpool’s leading educational buildings - including an historic University of Liverpool site.

Durastic has delivered new flooring schemes, covering thousands of square feet, for the Grade II listed Liverpool Guild of Students and Hugh Baird College, in Bootle.

The Guild, built in 1911, remains a city centre landmark with meeting rooms, offices and library, along with the Stanley Theatre and Mountford Hall concert room.

The project was a complex architectural plan involving a major £14 million overhaul of the site.

Durastic secured the work as a contractor to Integral which maintains facilities for the University of Liverpool. It finished the project a week ahead of schedule.

Durastic has delivered flooring projects to a number of other educational and public buildings across the UK including the University of Sunderland and Sage concert hall in Gateshead.

It has branches in Liverpool, Tyneside and Southampton.

In addition to onshore work, it manufactures, supplies and installs maritime flooring and decking coverings.

Durastic contracts manager Anthony Kent, said: “The Guild is a building of significant historical merit and is well-known and loved.

“It was a highly interesting project to be involved with. The facilities needed a subtle and tasteful renovation to remain in keeping with the design but also meet modern needs.

“For all these reasons, we completed the Guild project way in advance.
