Yorwaste wins new recycling contract

Waste management and recycling company Yorwaste has started work on a contract to handle, process and sell all recycling materials collected from households in the Ryedale area of North Yorkshire.

The two and a half year contract with Ryedale District Council started on 1st October and operates from a transfer station on Showfield Lane, Malton.

The Council delivers paper/cardboard cans/plastic bottles and glass to the transfer site from its recycling collection rounds. Materials are weighed, stockpiled in bays and then loaded onto bulk haulage vehicles to off-site recycling facilities for final processing.

In total, Yorwaste expects to handle nearly 4,000 tonnes of material each year. The company will maximise the sale of recycling materials, returning most of the sales value to the Council, ensuring maximum benefit is gained from its recycling activities.

Steve Grieve, Managing Director of Yorwaste, said: “We are delighted to win this contract and thank the Council for putting its trust in Yorwaste for the delivery of this service.

“We are working in partnership with the council to enhance the recycling service and maximise income to the authority from processed materials.”

Yorwaste has a proven track record of working with local authorities to unlock the value from kerbside materials and deliver environmentally friendly waste solutions.“

Cllr Linda Cowling, leader of Ryedale District Council, said “The Council looks forward to working with Yorwaste over the coming years and I am confident the company will be able to deliver an efficient service, providing the ‘best value’ option for local residents.”

Yorwaste has been providing similar services successfully to local authorities in Hambleton, Craven, Richmondshire and Harrogate for the past few years, with excellent results.

Ryedale District Council has an option to extend the contract for a further two years if the service is delivered to plan.
