Local businesses celebrate employment opportunities in Calderdale
Local businesses united on Friday 05 December 2014 to showcase over 300 training and job opportunities available in the local area. The event, organised by Philip Allott of Halifax Conservatives, was supported by 15 exhibitors including Leo Group.
Held at North Bridge Leisure Centre in Halifax, the recruitment fair was opened by the Mayor of Calderdale, Patricia Allen and was attended by over 200 people. As well as job opportunities, the free event also offered careers advice such as CV writing and interview skills.
Leo Group exhibited an array of job opportunities available at its Swalesmoor Road head office from Health and Safety Officer to HGV drivers and factory operatives. The Group, which employs more than 430 people, is at the forefront of the recycling and green energy sectors.
Leo Group’s PR and Communications Manager, Melanie Rosser, said: “As one of the largest employers in the area, Leo Group was keen to talk to local people seeking employment about the variety of careers available across our businesses.”
“Despite reports of a fall in unemployment recently in Halifax, the event proved there are still plenty of people looking for work in the area. There is a huge pool of talent in Calderdale and the surrounding areas, this event gave us a great opportunity to discover that talent and discuss career opportunities within the Group. We were overwhelmed by the number of responses we received to our job vacancies.”
“Everybody we spoke to seemed pleased with the opportunities and advice that the event offered which is great news for the local community.”
The recruitment fair helped give those looking for work in the local area a better understanding of the job opportunities available as well as ways to improve their application skills. Leo Group was amongst 15 organisations that exhibited including Job Centre Plus, Calderdale Council and Calderdale College.
As well as discussing job vacancies, the event provided attendees with a greater understanding of the businesses within Leo Group including its pet food and waste recycling operations. In addition to the company’s community work across Calderdale through its Community Fund. In the past two years Leo Group’s charitable donations have exceeded £250,000, the Community Fund is just one aspect of the Group’s community work.
