Harrogate entrepreneur and ex-BBC designer takes on Savile Row with Leeds tailoring venture

Fashion and menswear entrepreneur Matthew Wignall has launched an expanding business which is set to take on the London-based tailors of Savile Row, at the Gentleman’s Tailor, Wellington Place, Leeds.

Founder of The Gentleman’s Tailor Matthew, who is a former BBC costume designer, started his training at Harrogate Collage, studying Art and Design.

His career in fashion has enabled him to work with a number of prestigious menswear brands; including working with the leading men’s tailors on Savile Row.

Matthew sources from the same Yorkshire fabric houses, including Dormeuil, Hield and Huddersfield Cloth as Savile Row tailors, and provides fittings by appointment, using visual software to create concepts which speeds up timescales and reduce manufacturing costs.

He will also provide an ‘at home or work’ service in a bid to fill the gap in the men’s retail market with high-end bespoke tailoring, which is accessible and affordable to all.

With additional outlets launching in Otley, Ilkley and Sheffield, Mr Wignall is taking the North by storm.

Matthew Wignall said: “Until recently, bespoke tailoring has only been available to the wealthy few. My business model will provide high-end tailoring at off-the-peg-prices, without compromising on quality, craftsmanship or service. Everyone can now try bespoke.”

“I grew up in Yorkshire and I’m extremely proud of my roots. I’m delighted to be opening a studio in the local area. Leeds is a wonderful city drawing shoppers from all over England.

“I believe that The Gentleman’s Tailor will provide locals and visitors, of all ages, a sartorial service that’s not only high-end, but affordable.”
