JJB Sports boss jailed over £1 million fraud

The former chief executive of JJB Sports, Christopher Ronnie has been jailed for four years.

He was convicted for taking £1 million of backhanders.

Christopher Ronnie, 52, of Wilmslow, Cheshire, was found guilty in November of taking payments from suppliers of the sportswear retailer in 2007 and 2008.

Wigan-based JJB Sports was dissolved with almost £150 million of debts in November.

Handing down the sentence, judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith said: “This was a flagrant and disgraceful breach of your duty as a CEO of a public limited company” according to the International Business Times.
