‘Ambitious’ £30 million Whitley Bay masterplan revealed
The Whitley Bay Seafront Masterplan sets out North Tyneside Council’s plans to reinvigorate the area between St Mary’s Lighthouse and Cullercoats Bay.
The proposals are a mix of council and private sector developments and will see more than £30 million of new investment at the coast.
It will involve a mix of schemes set to be funded by North Tyneside Council and its partners as well as plans put forward by private developers - all aimed at making the area even more attractive to visitors, residents and businesses.
These include plans for an impressive £1million visitor centre development at St Mary’s Headland, proposals to improve the Watts Slope area of Whitley Bay, plans for the future of the Spanish City Dome, significant promenade improvements, attractive landscaping, extra lighting and more.
Elected Mayor for North Tyneside, Norma Redfearn said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve finally reached the stage where we can reveal the details of our ambitious Masterplan.
“I know that residents have been keen to see these plans for some time, and I’m delighted that we’re now able to share them publicly.
“These proposals will enable us to make real progress on the improvements that residents and visitors have told us are needed to make Whitley Bay seafront a vibrant, attractive and appealing destination once again.”
