Apprentices strengthen one of Tyneside’s major engineering companies
Newcastle Tool and Gauge which is located in a modern ‘state of the art’ facility in Gateshead has constantly invested in new machines and equipment which has kept them at the forefront of technological advancement for decades.
With a range of machines and processes which include 5 axis machining, CNC milling, turning, EDM (spark and wire erosion), surface and cylindrical grinding the need for the highest level of staff is integral to their success.
Apprentices have always been the lifeblood of the company. Having met with Newcastle Tool and Gauge’s Managing Director Brian Bates Tyne North Training very quickly understood their need for first class apprentices.
Mick Pears, Machining Training Officer at Tyne North Training is well aware of the opportunities working at Newcastle Tool and Gauge would give a young apprentice and being an ex-machining apprentice himself wanted to make sure that they recruited the best apprentices.
Mick submitted a high quality shortlist of potential apprentices who all aspired to work within a precision engineering environment. Due to the quality of the candidates Brian could not decide and subsequently opted to give two candidates a one week work trial. Brian was so impressed that he chose to recruit two candidates, Kieran Tubman and James Robson.
Mick, whose 25 years machining experience has given him years of experience working with apprentices, is confident Kieran and James will forge themselves great careers. “A combination of the lads’ raw abilities, Brian’s passion for developing young apprentices and the excellent machining apprenticeship offered by Tyne North Training really will contribute to Newcastle Tool and Gauge’s future as one of the leading precision engineering companies in the region.”
