Bdaily presents this years top ten North West creative business ideas. From products to innovative restaurants 2014 has had some interesting ideas. Read on to find out what has impressed us most in 2014.

1. RiutBag, Manchester

A new type of rucksack has arrived! No longer do you have to worry about getting pick-pocketed on your commute. The answer has arrived via a bag with all the zips facing towards the user instead of the general public.

The plan is to make bags “cooler and more techy”, eventually incorporating 4D programmable materials into the designs.

RiutBag inventor Sarah said that “there are two things I’m obsessed with, urban problems and the way that people interact with them.

“I just want people to be relaxed in an urban environment instead of constantly checking their bags to see that all their important things are safe.”

She continues, “I’m just a rucksack user who saw a problem with it.

“It’s a very normal rucksack, just the ‘Riut’ way round.

2. Dipstix, Liverpool

Dipstix allows you to compare Car Servicing and Mot Prices in your local area. The Liverpool based startup used crowdfunding to raise £300k. Founded by former UK sales director of Just-Eat, Dipstix aims to introduce transparency and fairness to the motor servicing industry.

They launched two new products this year Dipstix Rescue’ an independent roadside recovery service and ‘Dipstix SurePass’, a new way to protect a customer’s vehicle against any MOT repairs.

3. MyOwnEstateAgent.com, Bury

Property entrepreneur Simon Holland established MyOwnEstateAgent.com last year, and the site currently has listings for homes in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire, north Wales and the West Country.In addition to listing properties, the website offers ancillary services such as providing vendors with energy performance certificates, detailed floor plans of their homes and a professional ‘For Sale’ sign.

4. Miss Lady Lox presents My New Hair, Liverpool

Kelly Muirhead, founder of Miss Lady Lox presents… My New Hair, launched the range after she spotted a gap in the market for premium, natural, quality extensions. Many big name salons and hair stockists already supplying the extensions. In addition to her range of extensions, Kelly has developed products that are specifically designed to work with hair extensions.Kelly, was inspired to create a range of hair extensions and products that women could rely on. The feedback from salons has been great and she hopes to make a turnover of £220k in 2014

5. Crazy Pedro’s Part Time Pizza Parlour, Manchester

A tasty idea, a late night pizza parlour that is open until 4 am in Manchester. The restaurant, called Crazy Pedro’s Part Time Pizza Parlour and was the brainchild of the entrepreneurs behind Manchester late night hotspot The Liars Club. For your late night pizza needs head to above The Liars Club just off Bridge Street.

6. Rormix Ltd, Manchester

Discover emerging music videos from independent and unsigned artists on this cool platform.

Rormix provides space for artists to have their music other than youtube. Instead of scrolling through videos aimlessly Rormix users enter a commercial artist they already like, for example Ed Sheeran and the platform suggests videos with a similar sound or style. Rormix is currently on mobile, desktop and in gyms across the UK.

7. Centurus Ltd, Preston

A Preston based startup decided to change the face of international education. The software developed has meant over 100 systems being unified into one simple system for international university applications. Think UCAS for overseas applications.

8. DOR-2-DOR Fylde, Blackpool

A Blackpool based entrepreneur decided to offer direct mailing fliers to businesses. Natalie White has started up , a franchise which specialises in assisting local businesses to get their message out to consumers through direct mailing service. The company assists with everything from bespoke leaflet creation and distribution to a co-operative mailer option called “letter box” which enables businesses to reduce costs by up to a third by sharing space on a leaflet.

9. Offermoments Ltd, Manchester

A great app that was developed in Manchester. Offermoments Ltd is a very easy to use mobile app for shoppers.

The app tells shoppers about special offers emitted by OfferBeacons as they walk past stores.

The offers are personalised and only available for a short time while you are in proximity of the shop or food and drink establishment.

It is the start of a new breed of ‘in the moment’ apps.

10. William May, Manchester

A cool vintage venture, selling vintage treasures online. The idea came to established Pawnbrokers and they invested £100k to start up the website. William May offers vintage and pre-loved jewellery items.

The project comes as the pre-loved market continues to grow, particularly within the fashion industry.

The company is set to turnover £300k in its first year.
