Billingham’s Chameleon restaurant group increases profits 37%

Billingham-based Chameleon Bar & Dining Ltd, which operates five restaurants in Yorkshire and Lancashire, has reported an increase in profit before tax of 37% to £115k versus £84k in the previous year.

Chameleon disposed of unprofitable tied leases, which has helped performance and allowed the company to focus on the more profitable outlets in its portfolio.

Turnover in the 52 weeks of 2014 was £4.4 million compared with £4.5 million in the 53 weeks of 2013.

Part of the ongoing development for Chameleon includes the launch of an event space at The Halfway House in Shipley.

Chameleon Bar & Dining Ltd has a wholly owned subsidiary “Chameleon BD leases” to allow the separation of the freeholds from the leaseholds and facilitate the work in tied leases.

Chameleon Bar & Dining Ltd continues to successfully grow all of the sites on a managed basis under the leadership of directors, Phil Strong, Barry Whitehead and Alistair Arkley. Collectively the directors bring together operational, financial and marketing experience to support and lead a strong team of general managers.

Managing director Phil Strong said “Our approach this year has worked. We’ve consolidated our business whilst maximising opportunities.

“We’ve structured our business to provide each general manager with a level of autonomy that enables them to grow and for the pubs to have a real personality.

“Feedback from our customers, improvements with the menus and our insight into industry trends means we are on track to continue to reduce our bank debt and to protect the business from the possibility of rising interest rates”.
