Festive lighting company chooses Blackburn for new head office

MK Illumination has refurbished Blackburn’s 1970s era Riverside Works in preparation for relocating their UK production and distribution centre.

The 21,000 square metre premises began as derelict offices and rundown commercial warehouse space.

The project represents a significant inward investment by the Austrian-owned company.

Growth prospects foresee job creation and trade with the local business community.

MK Illumination manufactures large-scale festive lighting, decorations, grottos and animation for shopping centres, public spaces and leisure facilities.

The relocation of staff and development of a new production and distribution centre strengthens MK Illumination’s position in the UK.

MK Illumination selected design-led commercial interior fit-out company, Dale Office, as their main contractor.

The run up to Christmas is the busiest time of year for MK Illumination.

Managing director, Christian Niederstätter, said: “we chose Dale Office because we felt they demonstrated the best understanding of our requirements and we believed they could deliver within the ambitious timescales we set out.”

Dale Office workplace consultant, Mark Haynes, remarked: “the building presented us with more than the usual challenges due to its age and condition.

“Successfully transforming old, semi-industrial building stock into business-ready, inspiring workspace is always a challenge.

It now more than satisfies the client’s diverse needs.

“It was a real pleasure helping this highly creative, design-led business create their ideal workspace. From our first meeting, their design flair impressed me.

“MK are getting an amazing work setting, really suited to their business model.

“It’ll improve the way they operate and fits their own highly developed design sensibilities.”
