An Open Day to which all are welcome will take place on Sunday 18 January, 11 am – 5pm at Doxford Barn Weddings, Doxford Farm, Chathill, Northumberland, NE67 5DY.

This fabulous and unique wedding venue is set in a private 550 acre country estate which includes beautifully restored and licensed 18th century Northumbrian farm buildings, a splendid oak barn to accommodate up to 250 guests, courtyard, lawns and even a lake complete with swans.

Whatever your taste, whether it’s a small, intimate ceremony in a magnificent room complete with roaring log fire - a flamboyant wedding on the shores of the lake with champagne reception on the lawns – or a lovely, rustic flower-strewn affair with hog roast and dancing – the choice – and more - is all yours .

You’re also just minutes away from dramatic coastline, castles and unspoilt beaches for additional atmospheric and romantic picture backdrops.

• Firstly absolutely anything goes! The knowledgeable and helpful team at Doxford Barn Weddings – including highly experienced wedding planners, caterers, florists, stylists and photographers (if you want them) know just how very important it is to have a wedding as individual as you are. So whatever you desire – however unusual, quirky or wonderful - from your pet pooch as a bridesmaid, flocks of doves or a Harry Potter, Star Wars or Willy Wonka theme, to fairy lights on trees, choirs, brass bands or horses and carriages… you name it, they can arrange and sort it for you expertly with the minimum of fuss.
• You and your wedding guests can take your time and enjoy your rural splendour before, during and after the nuptials because you will have private, exclusive use of the venue for three days. Unlike some wedding venues who can have a “wheel ’em in and wheel ’em out” approach, Doxford Barn Weddings wishes everyone to relax and savour the entire once-in-a-lifetime experience in timeless style in the company of your own friends and family.
• There’s no need to go to extra trouble and expense to arrange accommodation for guests because traditional farm cottages on site, sleeping up to 40, will be available for you here for the duration. For hale and hearty guests, there’s also a well-equipped camping and caravan site. In addition, Doxford Barn Weddings can arrange extra accommodation nearby if necessary. A licenced bar will be available for guests to mingle and socialise throughout the three days. Catering for all guests before and after the wedding can also be made available upon request. We have a choice of fantastic Northumbrian caterers and chefs who can supply you with all your catering requirements.

Doxford Barn Weddings has been set up by young Northumberland businessman Richard Shell and is due to launch officially in July 2014. Many couples have already provisionally booked and it certainly looks like Richard is fulfilling a niche in the market. He says:

“I believe there’s a need for a new, refreshing wedding venue like this in the area. It’s no surprise that rural Northumberland is now one of the most popular areas of the UK for people to get married because it’s a beautiful place and relatively easy to reach. However from experience I know that many venues tend to dictate to couples how they should run their celebrations, which is restrictive, especially at such a special time. At Doxford Barn Weddings, I think you’ll find we are exceptionally open-minded to people’s ideas – no matter how wacky - and will move heaven and earth to make what would be impossible elsewhere – possible here!”
