Yorkshire Water extends npower partnership to continue renewable energy project
Yorkshire Water has extended its partnership with npower after signing a new contract which will see half of its energy needs met through renewable electricity supplied by Selby-based Haven Power.
The deal, facilitated by RWE Supply and Trading, will see Drax-owned Haven Power supply renewable energy to Yorkshire via npower until March 2017.
The collaboration amongst these energy companies will save Yorkshire Water £250k and help to keep customers’ bills down.
The company has seen an increase of 80% in renewable energy generation over the last year, thanks to strong operational performance from existing assets as well as increasing generation from the two new facilities at Bradford and Sheffield.
This has contributed to a reduction in the company’s carbon footprint by 15,000 tonnes in the last year.
Ben Roche, head of Energy & Recycling at Yorkshire Water, said: “It’s been a fantastic year for renewable energy at Yorkshire Water and our deal with Haven is a great link up for two Yorkshire companies while continuing our existing partnership with npower.
“Taking care of the environment and delivering value for our customers is something we’re passionate about and investing in renewable energy will continue to be a priority for us in the coming years.”
