CoderDojo Takes a Bow in Liverpool

A global community that enables young people to discover the magic behind technology and learn computer code is arriving this weekend in Liverpool.

CoderDojo, a volunteer-led, free programming club for young people aged 7 to 17, operates in hundreds of destinations across the world and is launching a new digital media club at The Studio, Liverpool.

The state-of-the-art school, located on Greenland Street, which specialises in gaming, digital technology and coding, will be hosting monthly CoderDojo events from Saturday, January 17, which will take place between 9.30am-11am.

The dojos held at The Studio will allow young people to learn how to develop computer code, websites, apps, programs and games, and will also support creative and leadership skills.

Jade Parkinson-Hill, Director of Enterprise at The Studio, said:

“We wanted to provide young people from across our city with an invitation to join a rapidly expanding global community, allowing them to access the skills of tomorrow.

“CoderDojo allows young people, and the adults that accompany them, to discover the changing nature of the digital industry in a fun, safe and innovative environment.

“This dojo is the first of its kind in Liverpool and we’re looking forward to inviting our city’s young people and their carers into our school to learn the secrets behind the software and technology that we use every day.”

The Studio’s staff, students, and volunteers from the University of Liverpool will be exploring different coding languages, game and Minecraft development, and introducing programming to attendees at the hands-on event.

The Studio school opened in September 2013 and combines traditional subjects and qualifications with Project Based Learning (PBL) to prepare young people for their entrance into the workplace.
