Digital chief delivers master class to aspiring web professionals
A highly-respected online expert visited the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) this week to give web and media students an inspiring insight into the region’s booming digital sector.
Gary Bennion, digital strategy director of Preston-based Bespoke | Web Specialists, delivered a thought-provoking talk to a packed lecture theatre. The presentation gave real life examples of the work they do for local businesses to help them prosper and grow online, such as conversion analysis and user journey.
The talk’s objective was to encourage students to stay and work in Lancashire, with the region’s digital sector suffering a growing skills shortage.
With more than 10 years’ experience helping businesses of all sizes to grow online, Gary said: “Many graduates are drawn to the bright lights of Manchester and Liverpool, which takes talent away from the region. It is crucial that we show students the successful work that’s taking place right on their doorstep, to encourage them to stay and work in Lancashire.
“We also want to ensure students are equipped with the commercial skills required to add value to employers by showing how the curriculum benefits their future careers.”
School of Journalism and Media lecturer, Mark Porter, added: “Gary’s talk gave a fascinating insight into Lancashire’s profitable digital sector and having such a talented web expert from the local area was a great experience for the students.”
