North Yorks company hailed as export inspiration

A North Yorkshire company has been hailed as an exporting inspiration for businesses by UK Trade & Investment’s chief executive.

Dominic Jermey visited Tockwith-based Stage One yesterday to see first-hand the company’s work on creating the UK Pavilion for the Milan Expo.

The firm’s work will be placed on the world stage once again, following on from its creation of the Olympic cauldron for the London 2012 games.

Mr Jermey found out what awaits when the Expo opens in May, while discussing the company’s ambitious plans for further international success.

He said: “Success in international markets is at the heart of the Government’s long-term plan to build a stronger, more competitive economy.

“Through the UK Pavilion we will reach millions of visitors and build on the reputation of the UK established at the London 2012 Olympics.

“I was amongst those gasping in awe as the cauldron manufactured by Stage One took centre stage during the opening ceremony, and it is a privilege to visit the company’s base to see first-hand what is in store in Milan, and to get a feel for how it brings concepts and ideas to life.

“The company has a clear ambition and focus to make an impact in the global marketplace, and it is an inspiration for other Yorkshire businesses in proving that UK firms can lead the way.”

Designed by Wolfgang Buttress, the UK Pavilion embraces the Expo theme of ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’.
