Primula donates £100k to UK cancer charity

Primula Cheese, part of Kavli UK LTD, has donated £100,000 to Fighting All Cancers Together (FACT), the UK’s first cancer support and education centre, bringing the charity one step closer to completing its new £2m Gateshead-based facility which will provide a range of services and support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

Paul Lewney, managing director of Kavli UK, the company behind Primula Cheese, said: “FACT is an amazing charity which will change thousands of lives and open a whole new dimension to the cancer care facilities available within the North East. Newcastle has been Primula’s home since 1936 and we’re proud to be in a position to help such a worthy cause in the region.

“Kavli UK is fully owned by the Kavli Foundation, a charitable trust committed to supporting good causes. Annually it donates profits to charitable causes, supporting research, humanitarian and cultural projects within the UK and worldwide, so every time you buy Primula you can feel good knowing you’re supporting good causes like this.”

Joanne Smith, CEO and founder of FACT, said: “I’m overwhelmed by the donation, it’s a massive leap forward for FACT. We need to raise £2m over the next three years and the money from Primula will speed the building process along dramatically.

“The FACT centre will be the first of its kind in the UK and will play an important role in enhancing the lives of people with cancer and their families in the local area.

“Two million people in the UK today have had a cancer diagnosis. If this number continues to rise by over 3% a year, this could see four million people living with cancer by 2030, which of course effects loved ones as a consequence, so you can see what a vital role a facility like ours can play for those living in the North East.”
