German M+W wins contract for Sellafield waste store with £150 million bid

The German based M+W has won the contract to complete the building of the Sellafield waste store with a £150 million bid.

The German company will use local Cumbrian firm James Fisher & Sons as its civils contractor.

The announcement follows after the recent news that Nuclear Management Partners (NMP) lost its contract to clean up the site, following criticism of its performance.

Project manager Eleanor Billson, said: “We are delighted to welcome M+W Group to the BEPPS DIF Project.

“Their experience of working on major projects both in the UK and overseas, make them ideally suited to work with us to deliver the detailed design, installation, construction and inactive commissioning of the project.”

M+W group chief executive, Peter Greenhalgh said: “We have demonstrable expertise delivering many of the world’s largest and most complex projects and we are excited to be working at Sellafield.

“Nuclear is a core focus for us and we now look forward to applying our experience to deliver a state-of-the-art facility that will be a key asset in addressing the UK’s nuclear decommissioning needs.”
