Headway event focuses on behavioural change after brain injury

A Headway information evening in Scarborough on January 28 will give families, carers, volunteers and professionals an insight into the behavioural changes that result from brain injuries.

Sarah Rayner, a brain case manager with Community Case Management Services which provides rehabilitation and a former nurse at a brain injury neuro-behavioural hospital, will share her knowledge at the event which takes place at The Street from 6.00pm – 8.00pm

Mark Hollinghurst, the local branch chair of Headway - a charity which provides a wide range of support and information services for people with brain injuries, their families and carers - is hoping that the talk and social event will be a helpful resource to those affected by brain injury.

He said: “In additional to Sarah’s presentation there will be an opportunity to share experiences and speak with experts on hand. The evening is open to all – whether you have suffered a brain injury or are a family member, carer, volunteer or professional.”

Each year around 135,000 people are admitted to hospital with a brain injury. The majority will make a full recovery in time but even a minor injury can sometimes result in longer term problems. Severe injuries will inevitably need complex care, impacting on the patient, their family and carers.
