Hilton signs up for Humberside Airport £7 million project
Hilton Worldwide has reached an agreement with Nightel Ltd to bring its mid-market Hampton by Hilton brand to Humberside Airport as part of a £7 million development.
The new hotel will join more than 35 Hilton Worldwide properties at European airport locations, and continues the expansion of the focused service brand, which now boasts more than 1,900 properties worldwide.
Operating under a franchise agreement with experienced regional developer Nightel Ltd, the 103-guestroom Hampton by Hilton Humberside Airport is expected to open in mid-2016.
The agreement was recently granted planning permission and is being developed in conjunction with North Lincolnshire Council, which is supporting the £7 million project with a Regional Development Fund grant.
Paul Green, Nightel Ltd, who is responsible for bringing the hotel to fruition, said he was “absolutely delighted” to partner with Hilton Worldwide, adding that the Hampton by Hilton brand promised a quality of accommodation that is scarce in the Humber region.
“Signing the agreement is a real coup for us and speaks volumes about the standard of development we are bringing forward,” Green continued.
Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe & Africa, Hilton Worldwide said, “Humberside Airport is a vibrant passenger and cargo hub, and home to the second largest heliport in the UK.
“Hampton by Hilton Humberside Airport will appeal to passengers travelling through the airport, and alleviate the growing need for quality, economy hotel accommodation in the wider Humber region.”
Plans for the new hotel include a restaurant, bar, 24-hour fitness centre and on-site parking for guests. Once open, guests will benefit from complimentary WiFi access and a delicious hot breakfast included in the room rate, a feature of every Hampton by Hilton worldwide.
The hotel will cater to leisure guests, alongside demand from corporate visitors requiring access to the UK’s offshore wind farm industry and oil and gas activities in the North Sea.
Councillor Liz Redfern, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said, “We have had a record year in North Lincolnshire, with huge levels of investment being made. The Hampton by Hilton Hotel at Humberside Airport is a major part of this investment. We are extremely excited for this £7m hotel to be built; it is going to give the area a real boost.
“It will not only regenerate North Lincolnshire by creating new jobs but it will also enable people to stay longer in our area and discover what fantastic things it has to offer.
“Humberside Airport is close to a main motorway that links the airport to Scunthorpe and surrounding areas, and has rail connections. The hotel is going to be in the perfect location.”
The hotel will be developed on land between the existing Nightel Humber Hotel, also developed by Nightel Ltd, and the main A18 road link, providing convenient access to local and national transport networks.
