Humshaugh Quarry supports grassland work
Volunteers from Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Save Our Magnificent Meadows (SOMM) Project, (funded by Heritage Lottery Fund and led by Plantlife) braved the snow on 19 January and travelled from the Trust’s headquarters in Newcastle to Hanson Aggregates Keepershield Quarry in Humshaugh to collect whinstone chippings and dust which have been very kindly donated by the Quarry.
The materials will allow Project Officer Naomi Waite and her team to grow a selection of whin grassland plug plants such as rockrose, wild thyme and maiden pink at Walltown and Gunnerton.
