Restaurant Week spreads to NE2 and NE3

TWO top Italian eateries are staging their own version of Newcastle’s Restaurant Week, bringing deals to diners in the suburbs.

From 26 January to 8 February, Scalini’s, at Great North Road, Gosforth and Osborne Road, Jesmond, will be offering special rates on set menus devised specially for the occasion by their head chefs.

This is the second year running in which the Scalini’s restaurants have run their NE2 and NE3 weeks, which come hot on the heels of the popular NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week, when diners can eat at a variety of venues at reduced prices.

This year, diners can choose any two courses for just £10 or all three courses for £13 from comprehensive menus at each venue.

Ham hock broth, oven-baked feta cheese and salt and chilli fried calamari are among the starters on offer at Scalini’s Jesmond, while main courses include chicken arrabbiata, pizza Michelangelo and pappardelle pasta with pesto cream, sun-blushed tomatoes, olives and spinach.

For dessert, diners can then choose from mixed ice cream, profiteroles in chocolate sauce and strawberry cheesecake.

In addition, Scalini’s at Gosforth, NE3, is offering starters including black pudding, chorizo and leek crostini with cream sauce and chilli and lime crab cakes with citrus yoghurt and mint dip.

These are followed by main courses such as slow roasted pork belly with honey roasted parsnips and swordfish triangoli; pasta parcels filled with fish, shallots, parsley and garlic and a choice of desserts such as chocolate truffle tart with raspberry sorbet.

Atul Malhotra, director of The Malhotra Group, which owns the Scalini’s restaurants, said: “Our inaugural NE2 and NE3 weeks last year were a huge success, attracting not only local diners but those from further afield.

“And we very much hope diners will enjoy this year’s offers even more.”
