Team Valley specialist manufacturer recruits Design Engineering Apprentice
Rubb Buildings designs and manufactures re-locatable and permanent engineered fabric buildings. Typical buildings include military hangars, shelters, warehouses and workshops, custom designed specialist sport buildings and storage buildings for a variety of sectors including aviation, ports, emergency relief, energy, construction, bulk storage and environmental (waste and recycling).
In September 2014 Rubb Buildings recruited their first Technical Apprentice to work in the Design Engineering Department at their head office on the Team Valley Trading Estate in Gateshead.
Liam Whyatt who attended Heworth Grange School and achieved excellent GCSE and AS Level grades decided that he wanted to pursue a Technical Apprenticeship rather than go to university. Liam applied to TNT in early summer 2014 where he was tested and interviewed. It was clear to TNT that Liam’s future was within design engineering which in the past has been a profession which started at university. John Hopper very quickly identified that Liam could achieve this goal by securing an Engineering Technical Support apprenticeship. John Hopper who recruited Liam quickly realised that the design apprenticeship at Rubb was a real opportunity for a young dynamic apprentice.
John commented “Rubb’s engineers design, plan and manufacture innovative and efficient semi-permanent buildings for a variety of exciting applications. Liam will be involved from the start of a project to ensure that Rubb come up with the best custom design for their clients. This really is an exciting opportunity for any young apprentice who wishes to become a professional engineer.”
