Leeds catering enterprise expands 250% in 3 years
Leeds business Salt’s Catering, launched in 2012, is set for further growth as they invest £40k in a move to new premises at Wellington Road Industrial Estate in Leeds.
The business, which last month moved from a 1,300 to a 4,200 square foot unit, has grown by 250% in the three years since it began trading in 2012. This sustained growth has enabled director, Bruce Salt, to invest in this recent relocation and unit refit.
Bruce said: “One of the main catalysts for our growth has been the way we have diversified our offering. While corporate catering is still the lifeblood of the business, in the last couple of years, we have teamed up with venues across Yorkshire to provide catering for weddings and conferences, while also securing a large proportion of our work through private functions too.”
“Contracted deliveries to a large corporate base across Leeds and Bradford are the backbone of the business. With additional capacity and resource, Salt’s Catering can now build this line of work while continuing to grow its bespoke menu creations for weddings, parties, picnics and restaurant-format dining for numbers up to 500.
“The new unit gives us the scope to grow by another 500%. We are looking to invest an additional £50,000 in new equipment and building improvements so we really feel we are in our strongest position yet to take on bigger orders, more ambitious events and larger catering contracts.”
Under the direction of head chef, David McMaster, Salt’s Catering has built its reputation by making dishes by hand.
David, who joined Salt’s Catering in 2012, has worked for over 25 years in senior roles at hotels and restaurants, including the Devonshire Arms, and prior to joining Salt’s Catering, he also headed up a large Leeds-based catering company.
Working alongside David are chefs Tom Bell and Vivian Lee, who are supported by three part time members of staff throughout the week. Bruce concluded: “We now have a solid and experienced team who have powered this success story and who have given me the confidence to move in to new areas and take on exciting challenges.
