Eric Wright forms partnership with Preston’s College

The Eric Wright Learning Foundation (EWLF) has joined forces with Preston’s College to expand its range of training courses.

The Leyland-based organisation has provided construction training to schools in South Ribble and Chorley since 2005, helping more than 1,000 young people to learn practical skills and prepare for further education and employment.

Designed to complement GCSE programmes, courses teach a range of skills, including joinery, bricklaying and painting & decorating,

From September 2015 onwards, learners will be taught at Preston’s College in a ‘Real Work Environment’, sponsored by the EWLF. Participants will have a wider choice of courses, including BTECs and the City & Guilds TechBac course, a new curriculum that will provide a professional pathway to a chosen career.

They will also have access to the college’s new £13m science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) centre, which is currently under construction and will officially open in time for the Autumn term.

Eric Wright, founder of the Eric Wright Learning Foundation, said: “We see this partnership as a way to build on the great work we have done over the past 10 years and will be working together with Preston’s College to provide learners with an experience that truly reflects a typical working day.

“They will wear all required personal protection equipment (PPE), receive safety inspections and visit live construction projects so they can gain a full understanding of the different trades, how they work together and what employment opportunities there are available in the industry.

“By collaborating with Preston’s College we can provide learners with the skills and knowledge they need to get ahead in life, whether that be further education, an Apprenticeship or paid employment.”

Dr. Lis Smith, Principal and Chief Executive of Preston’s College said, “The EWLF has done some fantastic work over the years and through its work with young people, the Foundation is at the forefront of developing employer led courses and curriculum.

“We are delighted that the EWLF has chosen to sponsor, advocate and support our 14-16 study programme geared toward making young people THE most employable they can be.”
