600 new homes for Harrogate suburbs approved

Persimmon Homes plans for 600 new homes on the edge of Harrogate have been approved, after previously being shelved.

The proposal for land at Penny Pot Lane, Harrogate, by Persimmon Homes, had been rejected last year despite being recommended for approval.

The developer had intended to appeal but the council’s officers warned Harrogate Borough Council that it would be unlikely to win.

Councillors had been concerned about road access to the site.

However, officers said access from Penny Pot Lane had been assessed as being acceptable by North Yorkshire County Council’s highway engineers.

In addition to the housing, the plans for the 66 acre site include a retail unit and primary school.
