Partnership enters 12th year

A long running North East partnership is making magic happen as it enters its 12th landmark year.

Specialist retailer Magicbox, which sells a range of magic tricks, props and accessories at stores in Newcastle, intu Metrocentre and online, has signed up to sponsor the South Tyneside International Magic Festival 2015.

The week-long event, which attracts hundreds of professional magicians and magic fans from around the world, has been organised annually by South Tyneside Council since 2004. Magicbox has been there right from the beginning and have sponsored the event for the past nine years.

Graeme Shaw, a partner at Magicbox said: “The South Tyneside International Magic Festival is a highlight in the worldwide magic calendar and delivers a huge boost not just to the borough’s economy but to the North East magic fraternity as a whole.

“We have been involved with the event since the beginning, including offering sponsorship since 2007, and we’re delighted to be doing so again for 2015.”

As part of its long-standing sponsorship agreement, Magicbox are once again organising one of the South Tyneside Magic Festival’s showcase events, the Family Magic Extravaganza.

This year’s show, which takes place at the Customs House, South Shields on Wednesday March 11, will feature live performances by some of the North East’s top magicians, including Graeme, who was the youngest ever president of the Newcastle Magic Circle.

He will be joined by experienced children’s’ entertainers Tony Parx, Russ Brown, Magic Mickey, Dain Corden and compere Tony Junior, as well as juggling and comedy double act Double Trouble.

Magicbox, which has been running for more than 20 years, will also be exhibiting at a special dealers’ showcase during the festival’s three day magic convention, which is open exclusively to professional magicians and the most ardent magic fans.

This forms part of a wider programme of events, which also includes performances in schools across South Tyneside and two International Gala Shows for the general public at the Customs House on Friday and Saturday March 13 and 14.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “Magicbox has been one of the South Tyneside International Magic Festival’s biggest supporters since the beginning and I would like to thank them, and everyone else involved, for helping the event to enjoy such a successful run so far.”

Tickets for the Family Magic Extravaganza, organised by Magicbox and South Tyneside Council, are available now from the Customs House on 0191 4541234 or www.thecustomshouse.co.uk, priced at £7, with gala show tickets also available from £13.
