Merged York law office sees 35% turnover increase after recruitment drive

The York office of the merged Lupton Fawcett Denison Till law firm has seen a 35% increase in turnover and 15 new people on the team just a year after merging.

Denison Till merged with Leeds and Sheffield-based Lupton Fawcett Lee & Priestley 12 months ago to create one of Yorkshire’s top law firms with 280 staff and more than 140 executives.

Since then, managing director Richard Marshall has been on a recruitment drive, introducing lawyers Jonathan Moore from Harrowells, Elizabeth Webb from Newtons, Paul Sykes from BHP Law, Jeremy Scott from Langleys and Caroline Mockford from Lincoln-based Chattertons.

Three lawyers have also joined from the Leeds office of Lupton Fawcett Denison Till to boost specialisms, namely Erika Sinclair, who looks after private client work, employment lawyer Nathan Coombes andNigel Whitfield who is a personal insolvency and business recovery specialist. Nigel has also brought with him from Leeds the debt recovery team which he now oversees.

Lupton Fawcett Denison Till has said they are actively recruiting higher apprenticeships in legal services across the three offices.

Emily Gee has joined the York insolvency team to train through on-the-job-learning combined with part time study provided by its external training company. It is believed this is unique among York law firms.

Richard Marshall, Managing Director of Lupton Fawcett Denison Till, said: “It is certainly a tough time for law firms at the moment with a number going out of business or decreasing in size.

“However we are bucking the trend in York as can be seen from our impressive increase in turnover and the quality and experience of the new people joining the firm over the last 12 months.

“We believe the merger has created the only firm in York and North Yorkshire with the breadth of skills and expertise of a big city firm.

“We are very keen to add more first class lawyers to our team in York, and indeed in Leeds and Sheffield, and any such lawyers that feel that they could strengthen the teams should get in touch!”
