Humber businesses embark on trade mission to Malaysia

A business delegation from the Hull and Humber region has embarked on a Malaysia trade mission to Kuala Lumpur and Penan.

The delegation comprised representatives from the education sector, the firms including HETA, Amaradia, the Grimsby Institute and the British AgriFood Consortium.

Led by Kishor Tailor, CEO of the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership and Pauline Wade, International Trade Director from the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, the delegation met with several representatives from Government bodies and private sector companies to explore opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr Tailor said: “I was pleasantly surprised at how much access we had to senior officials and how open they were to exploring opportunities, sharing information and knowledge with our delegates’’.

Pauline Wade added: “I was delighted to return to strengthen ties and continue to bring opportunities discussed to fruition. We are totally committed to developing trade with the ASEAN region, using Malaysia as a hub’’.

The delegation proceeded to Penang for three full days filled with further business discussions with the Government State of Penang and the private sector. They also participated in the Halal Expo and the World Curry Festival.

YB Dato’ Haji Abdul Malik Kassim, the Malaysian State Minister for Religious Affairs and Domestic Trade and Consumer stated: “I am delighted to welcome back my friends.

“We are committed to the Humber region as reflected by the Memorandum of Understanding we have with the Local Enterprise Partnership and firms in the Humber region’’.
