Costa Coffee on Liverpool’s Lord Street shut down due to 'hygiene issues'
Costa Coffee on Lord Street in Liverpool City Centre has been temporarily closed down as a result of council concerns over “hygiene issues”.
According to the Liverpool Express, Liverpool council today confirmed Costa in Lord Street had voluntarily agreed to close after a routine visit from environmental health chiefs on Thursday.
Costa staff have insisted the closure was due to “refurbishment”.
A Liverpool Council spokesman said: “Following a routine inspection by an environmental health officer, Costa Coffee have voluntarily agreed to the closure of their premises in Lord Street while issues relating to hygiene are addressed. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
But the store manager of the branch who declined to be named denied closure was due to hygiene issues. He said it was voluntarily closed for “a refurbishment” and there are builders working there today.
The coffee shop closed on Thursday and was still shut on Friday.
