£870k cricket clubhouse contract win for Gateshead’s Koru Property

Koru Property Services Ltd were delighted to work with Burnopfield Cricket Club, one of the oldest clubs in the region, to develop a brand new facility with fantastic views over the Derwent Valley and Northumberland.

The village club is where legendary England batsman Colin Milburn – known as the ‘Burnopfield Basher’ and Jim McConnon, a brilliant England Spin Bowler, honed their skills.

The club had been at its original ground since 1875 when they were approached by Barratt / David Wilson about the viability of moving, which would enable a 60 plot housing development to be built on the old pitch and surrounding areas.

The club agreed to proceed and once planning consent was achieved, the club accepted the offer.

The main aim of moving was to ensure the clubs sustainable future, with a purpose built clubhouse that would bring in additional room hire and function income, as well as a club house for its members to be proud of.

Koru Property Services Ltd won the tender to build a new Clubhouse with a project value of £870k.

Koru worked hard to bring the project in on budget and allocated extra staff in order to ensure the club was ready for the start of the new cricket season.

Based in Gateshead, Koru Property Services Ltd is a fully integrated design and construction company with a long history of working with blue chip clients and an enviable reputation for delivering complex projects on time and within budget

Today, under the direction of Mark Taylor, they are a company with a difference having brought the entire construction process under one roof to provide a “one-stop shop” for major and minor projects.

Chris Nunn, Business Development Manager at Koru Property Services commented “the Burnopfield project has been a success due to the collaborative working from all involved from inception through to handing over the finished site”.

The new clubhouse facilities are open to the general public and include a fully licensed bar, a large function room (available for hire) and a separate club bar with great views. Martin Oswell, Chairman of the cricket club said “the committee and all our members could not be happier with not only a fabulous new pitch but a clubhouse we all can be proud of, thanks to Koru”.
