Driving forward growth at BS Holdings

BS Holdings creates 10 new jobs to help meet upsurge in orders

Northern Ireland heating engineering specialists BS Holdings is set to treble its workforce to in access 30 to meet a significant increase in demand for its industry-leading biomass heating systems.

The new engineering and managerial positions, which will be based at sites in both Antrim and Blackburn, will help to fulfill a £600,000 order which BS Holdings has secured with leading UK car retailer Lookers plc.

Following the successful installation of the UK and Ireland’s first small-scale biomass heating and cooling system in the new, state-of-the-art Ferrari and Maserati showroom at Charles Hurst Belfast – which is part of Lookers – BS Holdings is also installing the technology at Lookers’ VW dealership in Blackburn.

The UK’s first-ever car spray bake oven system to run on renewable fuel source biomass will also be installed at the Lookers’ VW dealership in Blackburn, while a further £1.5 million worth of installations at dealerships across Scotland and England has also been surveyed and priced by BS Holdings and are currently being considered by Lookers.

BS Holdings is making an investment of £50,000 in a new purpose-built facility in Antrim to accommodate its plans for growth across Ireland and the UK.

Commenting on the investment, Brian Hood, Managing Director, BS Holdings said:

“We’ve had a fantastic year so far and the success of our systems in delivering significant environmental and cost benefits for Charles Hurst Group in Northern Ireland has allowed us to successfully bid for additional projects across the company’s network of dealerships.

“Our focus has been on growing our footprint outside of Northern Ireland and this is paying off with an incredibly healthy order book with more than £2 million of works in the pipeline for companies in Great Britain.”

The renewable energy systems in England will remove 350 tonnes of carbon per annum at the Lookers facilities and save the company almost £6,000 in carbon taxation. BS Holdings will also be working on projects in Northern Ireland, developing and installing biomass systems for the newly-refurbished Charles Hurst Ferrari, Maserati and Land Rover maintenance building as well as the Lexus dealership and Charles Hurst valeting station.

Nigel McMinn, Managing Director of leading UK car retailer, Lookers plc, said benefits seen following the installation of the biomass heating and cooling system at the new, innovative Ferrari and Maserati showroom at Charles Hurst Belfast had encouraged the company to look at opportunities for use elsewhere within the company.

“As a progressive, environmentally-conscious business, Lookers is always keen to seek new ways to reduce our carbon footprint and to save energy in the most reliable and efficient way and we are pleased that the new renewable system is already generating significant benefits for our Belfast base.

“As a result of this, we are pleased to be working with BS Holdings to replicate this elsewhere across our UK network.”
