House-builder passes expertise down the generations

Horbury-based Orion Homes is passing decades of house-building expertise down through the generations with the recruitment of various young tradesmen whose fathers are already long standing employees.

The company’s list of related staff now includes Alan Jackson and son Colin (joiner and apprentice joiner) Chris Dalley and son Craig (decorators), Jeff Hunt and son Tom (bricklayers), Dave Stewart and son James (contracts manager and joiner), John Butterwood and son Dave (site manager and bricklayer) and Ralph Jenkinson and son Ricky (groundworker and bricklayer). Chairman, Tim Lumb, has three of his own children established in key positions: construction director Andrew, financial accountant Simon and land & commercial manager Jo.

Tim said: “Orion Homes now has a total of seven employees who have children also working for us. This reflects our roots as a family-run company - we employ people who we know personally and trust completely to provide the highest standards. We believe in providing the best training for future generations and these young tradesmen are learning Orion Homes’ values and commitment to quality from their fathers who have been with us for many years and offer outstanding skills honed over decades in the industry.”

Orion Homes are currently building a wide variety of highly specified homes in Heckmondwike, Ossett, Wrenthorpe and Northorpe, near Mirfield.
