Hounslow receives £18.5 million to accelerate housing development

Leader of Hounslow Council, Cllr Steve Curran has welcomed the Mayor of London’s Housing Zone announcement today.

The announcement promises a £18.5 million cash injection to accelerate housing development in a 466 hectare zone covering Hounslow Town Centre.

As a result, some 1,018 new homes, including over 400 affordable homes, will be built on three sites, with many available by 2018.

The announcement kickstarts wider regeneration which will include the expansion of Hounslow Town School and the relocation of council offices, with total investment expected to reach £151 million and almost 3,500 new homes by 2025.

The three sites in the housing zones are:

• The Civic Centre, Lampton Road site which will provide the land for 750 dwellings.
• The Nantley House site which will provide space for 68 homes.
• The expanded Hounslow Town School site which will also include 200 new homes.

Councillor Steve Curran said: “I am delighted that the Mayor has recognised the strength of the case for more housing in Hounslow, and I’m particularly pleased that it will move us much closer to our target of 3,000 affordable new homes by 2018.

“Against the backdrop of weakening support for social housing,including the recent Vacant Building Credit,this goes a long way towards addressing the enormous need in Hounslow, as well as the enormous potential.

“And next month I will be going on a fully funded trip to MIPIM – the international property fair – at no cost to the taxpayer, to bring back more investment for our borough’s booming economy and build even more affordable homes for Hounslow.”
