Wright Hassall partner honoured for Regency Run support
A leading local business figure has been honoured for his part in helping to raise more than £200,000 for good causes.
Nick Abell, senior partner of leading regional law firm Wright Hassall, has been given honorary lifetime membership of the Leamington and District Round Table to mark a decade of support for the Wright Hassall Regency Run – named the second best 10k run in the UK.
The Run, which has been sponsored by the 250-strong law firm since its inception and is organised by the Leamington Round Table, will take place for the 11th time on Sunday, April 19 with 2,000 entrants expected.
Andy Parish, chair of the Leamington and District Round Table, also gave Nick a shirt from last year’s event, along with an engraved hip flask, at a surprise presentation.
He said: “We are grateful for the backing that Wright Hassall gives us, and its sponsorship means that we can put more money back into the local community by supporting local individuals and causes.
“Many companies simply write a cheque for sponsorship and that is it, but Wright Hassall is an integral part of the event. It helps raise awareness, encourages other companies to enter and always fields a large team in the event.
“Nick underlines the commitment – he has taken part in seven of the Regency Runs over the years, which must put him in the top few most regular competitors.
“It is a perfect partnership on every level and we just wanted to express our gratitude.”
This year’s event will feature a children’s race organised in association with Leamington-based charity, Kids Run Free, and will see youngsters from Leamington and the surrounding region being encouraged to register and take part in the new 1.2 km feature event.
Nick, a former captain of Stratford Cricket Club, said: “I don’t think any of us realised what an institution the Regency Run would become when it first started. We were happy to give support then, and that remains just as strong today.
“A massive amount of work - all voluntary - from the Leamington Round Table members goes into the planning and organisation of the day, and it has done great things for local causes.
“While we operate right across the UK these days, we are firmly rooted here in Leamington Spa, and the Regency Run is very much an event by the community for the community.”
The honorary membership means that Nick can attend any social event, or business meeting, unannounced, and help advise and steer the group as they move forward with their local community work.
