Cramlington MOT startup accelerates with help from Gott Technical Services

A startup business in Northumberland has been given the tools to outpace its industry competitors with help from leading North East garage equipment supplier Gott Technical Services.

Cramlington MOT & Service Centre opened its doors in January after being fitted out by the team at Gott – allowing them to perform an MOT every 40 minutes and save their customers up to half the cost.

Shortly after opening, co-directors Craig Fairbairn and David Douglass took the decision to become a trade centre due to initial strong demand, and now offer trade prices for all of its customers across services.

Gott Technical Services designed the workshop incorporating the latest technology, including an automated test lane (ATL) as part of its full MOT station which can be operated by one person, saving on staffing costs.

Craig Fairbairn said: “While dealerships and other independent garages have to stay logged on to an MOT for a minimum of one hour, by embracing new technology we’ve been able to transfer our time and cost savings to the customer.”

Tooling and equipment advisor James Pattinson and the team at Gott informed each stage of the process from viewing the site before the owner took on the lease to recommending and overseeing the builders for the groundwork.

David Douglass said: “Once we received planning approval in October, it was full steam ahead. Gott Technical Services had already measured up the site and the engineer John – who is tremendously knowledgeable – knew all of the exact dimensions required.

“They took us through a step-by-step process covering how everything worked and kept coming back to check we’d settled in with all of the equipment. Everything down to the last detail such as designing our office with an MOT viewing window for customers and creating a warm environment has meant we’ve been able to offer that added value to make us stand out.”

Craig added: “We’re thrilled with the support that Gott Technical Services has provided along the way to get our new venture off the ground. James has been incredibly helpful with his knowledge of the independent workshop and they have been able to tailor a solution to meet our needs as a business.”
