Durham renewable energy provider completes £160k green hotel transformation

Newton Aycliffe based Revolution Power, a renewable energy provider, has converted a hotel into a green business after winning a significant six-figure contract.

Revolution has built a 200 kilowatt biomass boiler for Riverdale Hall in Northumberland in a £160k contract.

The boiler, which was constructed on Revolution Power’s site and was transported in large containers to the hotel, heats the entire hotel in its aim to save energy.

Riverdale Hall, which amalgamated four plant rooms for the project, is set to save £650k over the next 20 years due to its environmental transformation.

Wayne Richardson, the owner of Revolution Power said: “I am so pleased with the biomass boiler we have installed for Riverdale Hall in its aim to become more environmentally friendly.

“Going green really can save businesses money whilst also contributing to the environment, so everyone benefits.”

He added: “We look forward to working with Riverdale Hall in the future and to continue to transform communities in the North East.”

Revolution Power, which has been trading for nine years, has recently completed green projects on Bellingham’s town hall and various care homes across the North East, as well as installing solar panels into Northumberland’s RAF base.

Simon Irving, director at Riverdale Hall which will receive £19,000 from the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), said: “I am very pleased that Riverdale Hall is now a green hotel. I feel that we should all be trying our best to go green to help the whole planet.

“Many people may not realise this, but it is actually financially beneficial in the long run as there are many government backed initiatives to give both businesses and private homes the incentive to go green.”

He added: “I would definitely use Revolution Power again and we are already looking into LED lighting for the hotel and self-catering apartments.

“We’re also looking into having some more solar panels installed as we have some to heat water in our newer garden rooms but may look to putting some on other areas of the building.”

Looking towards the future, Revolution Power is also working alongside a Durham University PhD student in an aim to design more efficient heat pumps.
