Local demolition contractor Celtic appointed on Warrington’s Bridge Street Quarter project

The regeneration of Warrington’s town centre has taken another step forward following the announcement of the appointment of Celtic Technologies Ltd., as demolition contractor on the multi million pound Bridge Street Quarter project.

Based in Newton Le Willows, Celtic Technologies, part of EnGlobe Corp, will start demolition works in early April and are expected to take 21 weeks to complete.

Following the demolition of the Time Square area, work will commence on the first phase of the construction of the new development.

The first building to be built will be a temporary market hall into which the market will relocate early in 2017 in order that the current market hall can be demolished and then a new, 41, 000 sq. ft. market hall can be constructed.

At no time will the market close or cease to trade.

The Bridge Street Quarter project will create up to 400 construction jobs and 400 new permanent jobs in the leisure, retail and restaurant sectors when the whole project is fully completed in 2019.

Regional Director at Celtic Jon Freeman said: “Celtic-Englobe are very proud to be given the opportunity to bring more than 20 years of project delivery and innovation experience to bear on this landmark project.

“Especially one which will have such a positive impact on our local community and the ongoing development of Warrington town centre.”

Deputy Leader of Warrington Borough Council, Councillor Mike Hannon said: “The appointment of Celtic is another positive and exciting step forward towards the start on site of the Bridge Street Quarter project and the wider regeneration of Warrington town centre.

“We are particularly pleased to have been able to appoint a local company for the job, after a competitive tender exercise, and Celtic have an excellent track record.

“Demolition works will start in April when the site area will be fully hoarded off.

“Our fantastic market remains open and is still just as vibrant and exciting to visit as ever so please continue to shop there and show your support for our local traders”
