Home Instead Senior Care to create 150 new jobs across the North East

Care provider Home Instead Senior Care has announced the creation of 150 new jobs in the North East for the year ahead in a major recruitment drive starting this month.

Home Instead Senior Care’s offices in the Northeast are located in: Durham, Darlington, Cleveland, and Newcastle Upon Tyne. These offices are part of a national network of over 150 offices employing over six thousand people.

The care sector is growing at a significant rate as a result of the ageing population. The latest figures from Age UK report that there are now more pensioners than under 16’s living in the UK and with many older people opting to remain in their own homes, there is a boom in demand for people in caring roles.

The need to employ more carers in the region is a reflection of a national trend which is a result of the ageing population. A recent report from the UK Commission for Employment and Skills has identified the need to recruit over half a million carers by 2022.

The report also listed caring as one of the careers of the future, and for caring and compassionate people, it creates a real opportunity.

Trudi Jamieson, of the Durham office of Home Instead, said: “With an ageing population, caring for the elderly has never been a more important issue.

“The huge increase in demand for home care has resulted in a significant period of change and growth in social care, which is leading to a broader range of improved job opportunities in the sector.

“We are delighted to be creating 150 jobs across the region, bringing a welcome new year employment boost to the region.

“We consider our fantastic caregivers as everyday superheroes; they are everyday people doing extraordinary work.

“Whether they are providing companionship care, preparing meals, or helping with daily living routines, they are making a difference to the lives of the elderly.”
