Scunthorpe challenger grocer Nisa brings in £100 million Costcutter stores under Tesco boss

Scunthorpe-based grocer and convenience store Nisa has announced that it has recruited over 270 former Costcutter retailers since March 2012, worth over £100 million.

The group revealed earlier this month that it had welcomed 17 former Costcutter members based in Northern Ireland to the group.

This comes in addition to a total of 545 stores, excluding export business, joining the business during 2014.

Nisa recently announced that it had appointed former Tesco and Aldi director, Nick Read, as its new chief executive, who joins the company this month.

Mr Read replaces long-serving CEO Neil Turton, who is leaving the business after 23 years to launch a new shopper insight business.

While in the financial year to date, the company’s symbol group grew by 5% year-on-year.

Nigel Gray, business unit director for symbol at Nisa said: “The retailers who are joining us, like our current members, value their independence but also realise that through Nisa they benefit from a strong, recognised brand, sector leading delivery levels, low cost of goods, a 13,000 strong range, an award winning own label brand and a great range of promotions which keeps them competitive in the marketplace.”

Throughout 2014, Nisa invested in improving retail support for its members and relaunching its Heritage own brand range.

It continued investment in the distribution service to members - which led to a delivery on time success rate of over 95% for the four weeks prior to Christmas.
