Hawkesworth in North East engineering recruitment drive

ONE of the country’s leading independent electrical testing companies is recruiting at least 10 experienced engineers in the North East.

Hawkesworth Appliance Testing has undergone significant growth in recent years which has seen turnover reach almost £4.5m.

Now the company, which services clients across the UK, is launching a recruitment drive for experienced engineers to meet demand in the North East, particularly in the Newcastle area.

Darren Tonge, Sales Manager at the family run business, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for experienced engineers to be part of a growing business which has established a reputation as the country’s leading PAT testing company.

“Since Hawkesworth was launched over 20 years ago we’ve undergone significant growth and the challenge now is to bring the right people into the business to ensure we hit our targets.”

Hawkesworth Appliance Testing was started by Paul and Jane Hawkesworth in 1993 and now has a portfolio of thousands of clients.

The company employs over 30 people at its head office at Thirsk Industrial Estate and a further 85 engineers up and down the country and expects turnover to exceed £4.7m in 2015.

PAT testing, or portable appliance testing, is the name of a process by which electrical appliances are routinely checked for safety. It is the responsibility of the employer to make sure all electrical appliances are safe to use, and records kept, to prove systematic and regular inspections have taken place.

Darren added: “We’ve come such a long way since the business was started by Paul and Jane in 1993. We’re now regarded as the country’s leading independent PAT testing company and work with some major clients including the Environment Agency, RedBull F1 Racing, Serco and Travis Perkins.

“We want to continue to add to our portfolio and to do that we need to have experienced engineers in place to service the thousands of customers we have in all corners of the UK.”
