Europe’s largest engineering company commences move to Newcastle’s Cobalt Park

Siemens, Europe’s largest engineering company, has commenced a move to Newcastle’s Cobalt Business Park.

Letting a 39,200 sq ft space in November 2014, Siemens has this week commenced its move after a speedy three month fit out. The ground, first and second floor office accommodation at Cobalt 9B will be occupied by Siemens’ Power Generation Services Division on a new-5 year lease.

Cobalt Park is the largest office park in the UK and when complete will provide 2.5 million sq ft of office space.

Siemens Wind Service has recruited over 350 new people to support its Newcastle-based business this year and has a total of about 1,000 employees. Around 200 of these will move into the new Cobalt facility with provision for 50 more new recruits.

Since the signing of the deal in June, the team at Cobalt has gone all out to assist Siemens with a seamless move to their new premises. The relocation package included provision of individual travel plans and Q&A visits to Siemens current Walkergate offices.

On top of that all have been welcomed to join the exclusive Cobalt MORE card prior to the move to let them start benefiting from the hundreds of exclusive leisure deals which are available to Cobalt’s 13,000 staff.

Communications Manager, Tom Boden who has been working with the Cobalt Team to ensure all Siemens employees are aware of the benefits of the big move, said: said “The Cobalt Team have been an invaluable with maintaining employee engagement before and during the relocation.”

“With the team’s help we’ve been keeping everyone informed of the benefits the move will have on our business, both for those based in the office and those who we support at wind farms across the British Isles.”

Guy Marsden, Highbridge said: “This was an important move, not just for Cobalt Park, but also for the North East as Siemens has the option to expand into a further 13,000 sq ft within the building, bringing prospects of new employment opportunities to the area.

“Recent letting activity at Cobalt has underlined the popularity of the park among employers with 145,000 sq ft let in 2014. This deal increases take up to 185,000 sq ft , including the lettings of 78,000 sq ft to Utilitywise, 25,000 sq ft to HP, 10,000 sq ft to Accenture, 10,000 sq ft to G4S, 11,000 sq ft to Perfect Image and 5,000 sq ft each to Barnardos and IBM.”

“Siemens will join a stellar line up of tenants on the Park including Proctor & Gamble, HP, Accenture and Santander,” he added.

Richard Luijendijk, Managing Director Siemens Power Generation Services Wind Power GB&I commented “We are delighted to celebrate our move to the Cobalt Park facility in North Tyneside. It is a very exciting day for all our employees.

“The state-of-the-art facility is the home to our new Customer Support Centre that will enable us to support our operations teams and comprehensively service our customers. Together with our world class training facility at Shields Road, the new facility represents a significant investment in the region, the wind business and our employees.”
